I know it’s been a while since I’ve written about the development of Ciabranel D.A.T.A., but believe me there has been a LOT going on. I don’t even know where to start. I’ve been working like crazy trying to bring everything together. A few days ago, I registered the new business with the State of Florida and I also applied for and received a Federal Tax ID #. Those steps were simple to complete, especially since there was no paperwork involved. But now I’m at the point of developing the company’s website and it has been a pain, especially since my computer is worthless. So far I made a banner (below). It takes me 5x the normal time to do something because my computer is so slow. I go to the library when I can to use a computer, but it’s not always opportune to do so because of scheduling between my job and caring for my puppy Chino. Purchasing a new computer is definitely on my task list, but it’s something that I will not be able to afford for a few months

A few weeks ago I had a brilliant idea to start a business. I’ll rewind to get you up to speed….
So I’ve been working as a research associate managing a breast cancer research study at a local research institution. Since I’ve been there I’ve picked up many skills and I’m glad that I decided to work after graduating with my BS rather than moving back home with my parents. I’ve always been interested in learning more about computer programming, which I had the opportunity to learn. No, it wasn’t part of my job description, but I felt that in order for me to perform my job most efficiently I needed a custom database/programming interface to manage all of the data that I was working with on a daily basis. So after ~6 months of finally getting everything to work as I saw it in my mind, I was very excited to show it to my managers at work. They were extremely impressed at the functionality and how user-friendly it was to use. My boss was so impressed that she asked me if I would leave a template of the program before I left (for graduate school) so that they can use it for other research studies as well. Initially I told her that it would be no problem, but then something eventually dawned on me.

I had a bright idea to start my own business providing support to companies who need to manage large sets of data. I’ve been working on my bright idea since then and I will initially operate under my father’s corporation, Ciabranel Enterprises, Inc. My subdivision will be called Ciabranel D.A.T.A. (Design and Technology Associates).
The great news today is that I spoke with my supervisor (not specific at all, but just enough so she understood where I was coming from) and she let me know that they would have no problem setting my company up as a vendor to provide services after I officially resign (since I won’t be able to do it as an employee). I am so excited!
Lesson Learned: Don’t let a good opportunity go to waste.
