Hey readers! I would like to announce that at this very moment I am blogging from my new PC. It feels so great to finally have a computer that fits my needs! A lot has been going on, so I thought I’d write a post to summarize everything:

I had my 10th retight done yesterday. The next time I get my hair done, I’m going to have to travel 2 hours to get there (due to my upcoming move). For all of you constantly searching for Johadeni Nappi’s website, it is still under construction. As promised, I will continue to post their contact information (Address: 1638 9th St N, St Petersburg, FL 33704, Phone: (727) 823-9899).

  • Over the weekend, I travelled to Gainesville, FL (where I’ll be moving to) for the 3rd time searching for an apartment. Thankfully, this time was successful and I’ve located my future place of residence! Next step is coordinating the actual move for the first week of August.
  •   Today is the first day of my last week at my current job and I am so ready to move on. An interesting situation has been brewing and let’s just say that I need to get my software copyrighted ASAP!
  • I have more potential customers who are interested in my product. That means that I’m going to have to work at superspeed to get my business site, paperwork, pricing, etc. up and running. It’s going to be a LOT of work but I’m looking forward to it.
  • Chino   I am going home to Miami, FL this upcoming weekend to drop off my puppy Chino (I’m not taking him with me when I move). Sure I’ll be sad but I think that’s the best I can do for him right now. When I move to Gainesville, I need to focus on getting situated with everything. Besides, my parents love him and they have a huge yard for him to run around in.

I think that’s about it. I’m trying to be quick because I do need to go off to work soon. TTYL!

I am so excited to say that I have FINALLY purchased my new computer!!! Thanks to CyberPower (I refused to purchase another Dell), I was able to purchase a brand new desktop for only $547, yes $547! It is very powerful and I configured it to my liking, including 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, and a 1GB video card. I cannot wait for it to arrive so that I can really get to work on Ciabranel Design & Technology Associates. it is set to be shipped around 7/15.

The good news is that I left feeling more prepared for graduate school in the fall. I was very fortunate to have state political official, university deans, and others take the time out of their busy schedules to help students like myself learn how to navigate the Ph.D. process. I’ll be sure to discuss the actual fellowship in another post…. The old one has got to go because it is definitely impeding my progress. Honestly though, I have been trying to hold off on this purchase because I don’t really have the funds for it right now. In addition, I have been awarded a McKnight Doctoral Fellowship to attend graduate school starting this fall. So there is a chance that I may be surprised with a new computer to go along with the fellowship (this happened to me a few years ago as a McNair Scholar during undergrad, but unfortunately I damaged the computer). I won’t find out about the possible surprise computer until I attend orientation for the fellowship program which is about a week away. In the meantime, I’m stuck hightailing it to the library or suffering with my time sucking, extra slow computer at home.

I don’t even know where to start. I’ve been working like crazy trying to bring everything together. A few days ago, I registered the new business with the State of Florida and I also applied for and received a Federal Tax ID #. Those steps were simple to complete, especially since there was no paperwork involved. But now I’m at the point of developing the company’s website and it has been a pain, especially since my computer is worthless. So far I made a banner (below). It takes me 5x the normal time to do something because my computer is so slow. I go to the library when I can to use a computer, but it’s not always opportune to do so because of scheduling between my job and caring for my puppy Chino. Purchasing a new computer is definitely on my task list, but it’s something that I will not be able to afford for a few months :( .

 

Ciabranel D.A.T.A. Banner

 

Last week I confirmed with my supervisor and other management at my job that Ciabranel D.A.T.A. will surely be added as a vendor for the company once my employment ceases. I was so overjoyed with the news that I was hyperventilating; it was almost unbelievable. I guess I thought I would’ve been harder to sell my services, but they were all very eager. In fact, they were trying to figure out a way to hire my company sooner. I was assured that there were plenty of researchers who could use the services that my company will offer: custom software development & infrastructure for data management, custom reports, technical support, and possibly website design (still need to finalize this list). I am ecstatic!

 

Lesson Learned: Don’t ever for one second doubt yourself, your abilities, and your worth.
